Christmas Tree Yo Yo Earrings

Challenge 9 for our 12 Days of Christmas DIY Challenges is to make something to wear for Christmas using what you can find in your home.

I chose a small project to make. With Christmas being hot and tropical, I wanted something I could wear with anything! So a pair of earrings fitted the bill nicely!

I took a few scraps of green fabric, some paper circles of different sizes, a couple of beads, earring hooks and jump rings and a needle and thread.

I cut circles of different sizes from different fabrics and made small yo-yos - by folding over the edge of each circle and stitching a running stitch all the way around, then pulling it tight and securing with a couple of stitches.

Then I stacked the yo-yos on top of each other, largest on the bottom, smallest on the top. I just used 5 yo-yos for each earring.

Then I added a bead to the bottom and one to the top and stitched them all together from the bottom to the top.
At the top I looped the thread through the jump-ring attached to the earring hook and then stitched back down through the yo-yo layers and then back up and down one more time to secure.

And there you have - a pair of cute little Christmas Tree earrings.

Ready to wear, by the pool.....

Or when going out!

Have you ever made yourself anything to wear for Christmas?  If you have then we'd love to see - please do link up to
our Challenge linky here - it's open until Christmas so there's plenty of time.

---------------------------------

For 12 days starting on November 2nd we will set a challenge a day to create something for Christmas using just the resources you have on hand.
The idea is to show that Christmas Shouldn't Cost the Earth. If you're reading this, chances are you love to craft, but why not craft with the resources we have on hand - let's get creative!

Each day a challenge will be set by means of a video and blog posts giving some suggested ideas and crafts. These posts will also contain a linky party for anyone and everyone who wants to join in to link up their projects - both past and present, that answer the challenge.  The linky party can be found on all our blogs and we'll  try and come up with different ideas and tutorials for the challenges too. So please to visit us all, and then share your ideas with us as well! We're looking forward to seeing how these challenge are met!

Ready, Steady....Let's Christmas Craft!

    1. Thanks Vicky, I've seen so many cute things made with yo-yos, it was nice to finally try something. I've seen a clown made with them and it was adorable! One day I might find the patience to make the amount of yo-yo's you'd need for that!
