When I included hats and caps in my list of clothing to upcycle, I didn't think they would draw such a blank when I started to search for ideas!
We have a LOT of caps, and since we only have 4 heads in our house, I thought I'd maybe find something useful to do with the excess.
Funnily enough - just this week in the Round Tuit linky party, there was an entry about upcycling a cap!
Joy from Joy's Jots, Shots & Whatnots, used an old cap as a threadcatcher for her overlocker (serger)
What a great idea!
She also thought of using a cap for a bedside pocket!
The only 2 other ideas I found were:
Stitching the opening of stretchy hats and stuffing them to make small pillows.
I used an old cap to make a frog headpiece for our froggy team to wear during a fundraising swim we did:
So there's the challenge to put out there - what uses can you find for old hats and caps? Ways to upcycle or reuse them? What do you do with yours?
I do have a Hats and Caps Upcycling Pinterest Board all set up but haven't found many pins for it yet!

Or to browse the 600+ Clothes Upcycling projects in the linky go here. There are so many great ideas to inspire.
Happy Upcycling!
I actually LOVE all three of those ideas! Now my thinking cap is on, pun intended.
ReplyDeleteI'd love to see what you come up with Michelle!!
DeleteThe thread catcher is a great idea. I upcycled a cap into a...er...cap! I cut out the brim and incorporated it into a sun protection hat for my son, seen here http://www.meggipeg.com/2011/02/boy-sun-protection.html. I love your upcycling series and that nothing is put into the too hard basket!
ReplyDeleteJust went and had a look - love your sunhat, great way to reuse and old cap!
DeleteThanks for stopping by again Megan! I'm having fun with this series!
I do love a challenge. Gonna have to give this one some thought.

Thanks Cindy! Do let us know if you come up with anything!
DeleteJill, I love the thread catcher idea!
ReplyDeleteThe thread catcher gave me an idea to add a waterproof lining and stuff the cap between couch cushions OR place two bills (facing each other) and sew them on top of one other to place over the arm of a fluffy couch or someplace else.
Great ideas Maria! Thank you!!
DeleteGlad you liked the "Thread Catcher" idea. Thank-you! As I read N.Maria's comment above, for some reason her couch idea made me think, you could stick the bill of a cap between mattress/box springs and enJOY having a pocket on the side of your bed to keep whatever-- ah like the TV remote? Thanks so much for hosting Round Tuit. I've been coming to your party for a couple of years now.
ReplyDeleteLOVED the threadcatcher idea Joy! - and that's another great idea to use one as a bed pocket too!
DeleteThank you for the tips!!!!! I love the idea of having a pocket on the side of my bed for the TV remote! One idea that I have is to make a crochet hat and use an old cap bill to become part of the new crochet hat.
ReplyDeleteMarisa :)
Great idea Marisa - to reuse the structure of the old cap to make a new one!
ReplyDeleteGee, the froggy cap is so cute Jill!
ReplyDeleteThanks Judy!
Deleteand So I grabbed a white cap and made a bedside pocket! Took longer to take the pictures. Wonder where else we can stick a cap?
ReplyDeleteThat's brilliant Joy! Thanks for linking that up!
