Belts, belts, belts!

I've been in need of some new belts for a long time now and finally got around to making some!

I've been down to my last one, which is now perilously close to breaking..
And have been saving my old belts so I can use the buckles and perhaps the leather for another project!

So I went to work.
I used an old buckle, fabric from one of my girls dresses (I'd already used some of the dress to make an apron) and tried out a packet of eyelets for the first time - which I bought a while ago and still hadn't opened!
Here's how my first belt turned out..

What do you think?

The tutorial was nice and easy to follow. I used buckram instead of belting (as I had none). I just cut it to the size I wanted and it seemed to work fine! It was tricky to slide the buckram into the tube once made - but I got there in the end!
I also added a small loop around the belt to tuck the end into.

The next belt I made was a reversible one using a tutorial from Tarilyn's Show 'n Tell.
This was a lovely easy tutorial to follow. Again I used buckram instead of the interfacing which worked fine.
Here's the belt:
The patterned side.....

And the plain side...

Finally I made a patchwork belt.

This one uses ribbon on the back of the belt.

I'm really pleased with my 3 new belts. They were nice and straightforward to make and now I have a choice of colour to match my outfits when I wear my jeans!

I have a little leather left over from my old belts, (I had to throw a lot of the leather out as it was too worn) and a couple of buckles, perhaps for some more belts - or another project?

Have you ever made anything from old belts? Or made your own belts?

    1. Thanks Alison! They've been on my list to try for ages, and I was really surprised at how easy they were and how well they turned out!

  3. That is an awesome idea! I love how you repurposed your old buckles! Were the eyelets hard to use? I've been nervous to try them. You did an excellent job sewing the belts! They look very professional. :)

    1. Thanks Jenni!
The eyelets were really simple. I bought a packet that had the little tools in and all I had to do was poke a hole with an awl, place the pieces on either side of the hole and bang with a hammer! So simple, I was very pleased!

  4. i really love these belts, i am in need of new belts too but leather can sometimes be a little boring, did you just use normal fabric for these, i think the effect looks cool

    1. Thanks Karmann

Yep, just used regular cotton fabric for these belts - you could pretty much use anything I reckon!

  5. These look great, Jill. I especially like the red reversible one. I did a course on working with leather, as part of my Teacher training. One of the things I made was a leather belt, which I still have. It took me ages to punch the patterns into the leather. Other than the leather belt, I've only made belts for kids.
