Oh So Soothing Bag

Yesterday I made a new little bag called the "Oh So Soothing Bag".
It's from a book I found in the library:

It has some great looking things to make in, and this is the first thing I've tried.

The pattern was relatively easy to follow, but does assume a knowledge of sewing - like when it tells you to
'make an inverted box pleat' with no further explanation or picture to help.
(I had to scrutinise the picture of the finished bag, and Google a box pleat to make sure I was doing it right)

I liked that the bag was made of 4 panels stitched together.
But if I were to make another one, I would choose to join the base pieces of the inner and outer fabric separately to the inner and outer bag, and hand-stitch the opening closed - rather than the method chosen in this book which leaves the raw edges of the base visible on the inside of the bag:

It's a very cute bag and a lovely design:

I think it would be a great way to give a gift of some nice toiletries - perhaps I'll make some up for Christmas time!

I'll be linking this post to many of the fabulous linky parties whose pretty buttons can be found on the bottom of this page and whose direct links can be found on my linky party page.

The link to the mentioned book is an affiliate link and I do receive commission for sales from that book site. However - I received no compensation for mentioning this book - it is entirely my own finding and opinions.

  2. That's really cute! It's funny -- I checked a great sewing book out from my library and made something from it too. I loved it, but hated the exposed seams inside! Totally different book but same problem. Maybe they didn't want to waste page space to instruct how to make it with nicer enclosed seams? :)

    1. MMMmm - strange isn't it Niki! Enclosed seams aren't that hard - and when they take such care to make things look good for the books - nice photos etc, it seems such a shame!
